Monika on Asquith Clothing

Monika on Asquith Clothing

asquith-yoga-clothing-logo

Today, I received my Asquith order which I am going to use during the annual Pilates on Tour conference this weekend, organised by Balanced Body

I ordered CAPRI PANTS NAVY, CROP PANTS NAVY, SLEEVELESS BOATNECK WITH FITTED BRA NAVY and BOX T SOFT GREY AND WHITE TOP.

Can you tell what kind of wardrobe I have?? It’s all dark!

It’s a lovely and hot today so the first thing that struck me was how smooth and cool the material felt when I tried it on.   Secondly, how gorgeous is that navy shade?! The picture doesn’t show it well.

On trial I realised the Capri Pants were made of soft cotton fabric  while the Crop Pants felt much thicker and therefore kept everything together better (although the description states they are made of this same organic cotton). The third trousers, which I purchased previously, long with a tie at the bottom, are the softest and made of bamboo fabric, these tend to show most on a voluptuous person like me, which personally suits me least so the cropped and capri pants are a winner on both counts for me.

The navy fitted top is fabulous! Flattering seams on the sides of the waist, bra support, perfect length covering the belly and the hips.  This is really an excellent piece and I intend to order it in different colours as well.  Similar piece in the ‘supportive’ range is a camisole with fitted bra, also very comfy.

Asquith produced a very clever piece called the tube (like a mini skirt or a long fold over) which can be worn in various ways but mostly over the capri pants or normal length trousers. I like it very much but the colour choice doesn’t include any darks, which is the only one I would pick for it. I am hoping that maybe it will become available soon.

To contrast all that navy I bought a light, wavy top (Box T), two tone which is luxuriously soft and lovely to wear but unless you intend to draw a lot and a lot of attention it must be worn over another top, as it is practically see through.

I think Asquith clothing are making a great progress designing pieces that are now suitable for Pilates and yoga teachers alike.   Great stuff!

In the near future we will publish couple of blogs about the history of Asquith Clothing and the woman behind it, Alice Asquith; the second blog will be on types of fabrics she uses to create her lines.

Right now, you have a chance to have your say: what would you like Asquith to do so their range will be your number one choice of leisure and Pilates wear?

Me? Thank you for asking ;) I would like to see some thumb holes in long sleeve tops, 3/4 sleeve simple tees and a choice of trousers length !

Pilates clothing at the Yoga Show 2012

Pilates clothing at the Yoga Show 2012

At the recent Yoga Show in London’s Olympia, if there was one stand in particular that was drawing in the crowds and making a killing, it was the Asquith stall.

A firm favourite in the yoga and Pilates’ world, Asquith clearly has a huge following and it’s clear to see why. Comfortable and functional leisurewear with fashionable twists, Asquith London is all about feeling and looking good in your kit. For teachers, it’s so important to love your kit and feel happy in it both in style and physical-comfort, since these are the clothes that teachers are in 75 per cent of their time. Asquith meets the criteria.

The Asquith AW12 line has introduced tie dye elements, an interesting design detail to update leisure classics like the cami vest, leggings and fold-over pants. Gentle draping and layering creates soft textures that are both comfortable and flattering. Teaming leggings with the Asquith twist front cardigan creates a silhouette that balances out different volumes (fitted bottoms, oversized top). This season’s palette showcases autumnal tones such as fig purples, plum burgundys, chocolate browns and dark slate greys, with a small burst of bright coral shades.

This season is not only appealing to the eye, but as always with the Asquith label, the fabric used is primarily organic cotton and bamboo. The Asquith website professes that bamboo gets you drier faster, has temperature control properties and is anti-bacterial function.

If you needed any more convincing of what a wonder brand Asquith London (http://www.asquithlondon.com) is, it is completely fair-trade, and eco-conscious. Need we say more?

Basic Kit For Your Weekly Pilates Class

Basic Kit For Your Weekly Pilates Class

I have often been asked, by my clients, ‘What should I wear when I come to pilates class?’.  My response is this same every time: socks and anything comfortable… but then I thought, why not ask aspiring, young stylist for help.  We are hoping that this is the first in a series of articles about Pilates fashion.  Enjoy and do not hesitate to comment and throw in suggestions of clothes and labels we could check out!

Luxurious and Functional

Fashion and sports need not be mutually exclusive. This was definitely the case at this year’s Olympics.  British designer, Stella McCartney was of course appointed as creative director of designing Team GB’s uniform. In collaboration with Adidas, McCartney created a distinctive look for our team whilst always keeping the design practical for our sportsmen. It was a year never to forget for Team GB and a stylish kit to boot. Let’s not also forget, fashion royalty, Giorgio Armani created the look for Team Italy. It’s clear to see that sports and leisure wear can indeed be stylish, or at least not unstylish!

When it comes to practising Pilates, comfort is paramount and this is an important factor when deciding what to wear. We’ve put together some high quality sport staples that feel great against the skin, and are easy to move in.

A soft cotton t-shirt is invaluable to a Pilates-goer, here are our top 3 of the moment:

  1. Vince Little Boy Tee – Because of the cotton and modal blend, this t-shirt feels amazing soft against your skin.
  2. Amrican Vintage Supima Cotton T-shirt – They call it a second skin for a reason, this t-shirt represents ultimate comfort, completely moulding  to your body without feeling tight.
  3. Aubin and Wills Tenbury Tee – Who doesn’t love a pocket tee, a great alternative to you usual plain t-shirt. The cotton and viscose blend make for a comfy style.

A good pair of leggings is simply an essential part of your Pilates’ kit. We think these three styles will tick that box.

  1. 1.  American Apparel Cotton Spandex High Waisted Leggings – a brand that does cotton well, this style is particularly comfortable because of the higher waistband.
  2. 2.  Sweaty Betty Control Leggings – What’s not to love about this style? They have a rolled down waistband for comfort, feel super soft and are made from bamboo, which means they are naturally anti-bacterial and sustainable.
  3. 3.  Splendid Stretch Jersey Leggings– a cotton and modal blend with a touch of spandex, these leggings will feel amazing.1.  vince-t-shirt 2.american-vtg-teeshirt20 3. aubin-and-wills-tenburt-tee1.1.  american-apparel-legging 2.2.sweaty-betty-leggings 3.3. splendid-leggings
